- October: Dr. Walker worked as a volunteer surgeon in the Patent Office Hospital in Washington D.C. after being denied a role as commissioned medical officer. 

* Nurses were being paid 12$/hour but Dr. Walker refused to work as a nurse

- Dr. Walker started work as a field surgeon in Chattanooga Tennessee

- January: Commissioned surgeon, Dr. Preston King attempts to help Dr. Walker receive compensation for her work by writing to the Secretary of War. His efforts failed. 

- September: Dr. Walker is appointed as assistant surgeon in the 52nd Ohio Infantry in the Army of Cumberland in Tennessee.

- April: Dr. Walker is captured by Confederates.

- August: Dr. Walker is released by the Confederates in a prisoner exchange. 

- October: Dr. Walker receives a contract as acting assistant surgeon but leaves the Army soon after.
