Dr. Walker broke ideological barriers by proving that women can do what men can. She attended medical school when it was predominantly men, opening doors for women. She volunteered in the Army after she was rejected from a position in it. At the time, women weren't in the military, so by joining she proved women's strength. Finally, she was able to break social-cultural barriers by being one of the first women to wear pants instead of traditional attire. Through her activism, she was able to kickstart the movement to make non-traditional attire more acceptable, and led the way to pants becoming a widespread modern normality.
